"If you eat, invest, and think according to what the 'news' advocates, you'll end up nutritionally, financially and morally bankrupt." - @naval
This goes far beyond the 'news.'
If you eat, invest, and think according to what most people do, you'll end up fucked.
This is why the Better Man path is so iconoclastic—because it doesn't do anything by analogy but from first principles.
Some examples of our backward modern society...
Eat like most people and eat the way the Scientists tell you, and you'll be sick and miserable.
Invest the way most people do by blindly handing over their money to others that take a cut whether they win or lose, and you'll end up with shitty returns and maybe none at all.
Think like most people, and you'll have no ability to find the truth as you'll be a brainwashed zombie with no critical thinking skills.
Each of these topics requires a deep dive to understand fully and formulate a plan for yourself.
It's crazy how most people default to the default even though the default fucking sucks.
This is why: You spent the first 18 years of your life sitting in indoctrination camps called "schools" so you could get out thinking like everyone else. Next, you get a loan that will take you years to pay off so you can sit in a room again and be told what to think. This is called college. After that, you beg for a corporation to turn you into a debt and wage slave. You feel so elated when they pick you and tell you then how to live the most productive hours of your life. In the end, if you don't kill yourself first, you're supposed to have a "nest egg" that pays you income to live on in your later years.
What a load of shit.
The only way out of this broken status quo is to think for yourself. You have to go out there and do hard work yourself and learn from the feedback you get.
Money and health are your life force. You need both to thrive, yet few understand either and so end up defaulting to whatever their friends do.
Then surprise, surprise, they get the same shitty results as everyone else.
Take fiat, for example. This "legalized counterfeiting" of money erodes purchasing power and earning power. It's the government stealing right out of your pocket each year. Do you know how and why? Do you know the history of fiat? Do you know what money is?
Or do you accept the status quo because you were born here, and that's what everyone else does?
I can't imagine a more risky scenario of investing years of your life following a backward strategy simply because the people around you are doing the same.
